Bill C-6 & Our Benefits
Bill C-6 & Our Benefits
With the passing of Bill C-6 and our subsequent return to work the old collective agreement is back in effect until the new one is set in place. This means that all of our benefits are also back in place (ie: Medical, Dental, Vision, Hearing, Disability Insurance, Annual Leave and Sick Leave etc.)
Bill C-6 returns all our benefits and the terms of the old collective agreement back into place from February 1, 2011 until the new one comes into effect. Prior to that the old collective agreement was in full force until it expired on January 31, 2011. Bill C-6 now gives us ongoing continuous coverage until we have a new collective agreement. This means that all the provisions of the collective agreement also apply to the strike and lock-out periods.
If during this time you incurred benefit expenses (other than deductables) you should submit your claim for reimbursement to the employer. Remember to keep a copy of your paperwork, receipts and documentation. If CPC or Great West Life denies your claim, then you must immediately file a grievance. If you need assistance seek the advise of a Shop Steward. If problems with your benefits still continue to persist, then contact the Calgary Local Union office.
If you are having any major work done it is still best to get pre-approval from Great West Life.
A copy of the back-to-work legislation, Bill C-6, is posted on the bulletin page of this website.
