Wednesday November 30, 2011

3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

29 Industry Way SE Calgary,AB

These workers at Peri Formworks have been on strike since July 4, 2011.  This is their 1st collective agreement and they are taking on a large greedy International employer that is only to willing to let them freeze in the cold in order to prevent them from forming a Union.     *posted Friday November 24, 2011

Carpenters on Strike in Calgary

At 6:00 am on Monday July 4, 2011 members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners (Local 2010) went on strike. These workers work at PERI Formworks Systems Inc. (29 Industry Way SE Calgary).

PERI Formworks is the largest provider and manufacturer of formwork and scaffolding systems in the world. PERI Formworks was founded in 1969 and is a family-managed company with head offices in Weissenhorn, Bavaria (Germany). PERI is an international company with offices in 50 countries around the world (“with 5,500 employees, 48 subsidiaries and 100 high capacity storage sites across the globe”).

PERI Formworks is a profitable company that had a “825 million euros of turnover in 2010″ ($1,138,500,000.00), yet, they continue to pay their employees substandard wages. Many of the workers at this site are new Canadians and are wondering why their employer is not respecting their decision to unionize. The striking workers issues are respect, fairness, dignity, reasonable wages and job security.

Unions from all over the city of Calgary are showing their support for these striking workers. CUPW – Calgary Local encourages any member that has some free time and who happens to be in the area of 29 Industry Way SE to drop by the picket line and show their support.

Remember how uplifting it was to have the support and encouragement of other Unions, Organizations and the general public when we were locked-out. Maybe it is time to pay it forward!

An Injury To One Is An Injury To All!!!!!
